outdoor space design inspiration

so, let it be said, our outdoor space is drab! this is our third summer in our condo and unfortunately our balcony was the last space to be looked at for a revamp :( and considering this may be our last summer in our place, it's really crucial we get this done before it ends so we can enjoy it! i'm looking for inspiration to start our project and gathered up a few things to show you how you too can achieve an amazing outdoor space. make sure you keep your eyes open for our balcony reveal on the blog in the next few weeks!

1 \ light and bright

large or small space, using light colours is something i almost always do. not only do the light colours feel refreshing and uplifting, they really open up the space to help it feel and look larger. our current space is concrete encased, and the ground has carpet (it's awful!!!) i am planning to rip it up and depending on the shape the concrete is in, i may paint it a grey colour and to brighten the rest up i'll be painting the concrete walls white. opening up our space is especially important because it already has a disadvantage with it's size!

2 \ seating

i love these chairs for a few reasons, the design is very minimalist and open; in a small space like ours i really think it will help to open it up. i also love the idea of the cushions on the chair that are easy to clean and also add some colour and pattern to the space (easy to change up every season too!) another way i would like to incorporate additional seating is with floor cushions. with our small space they will provide function and style in one.

3 \ small table

the size of our balcony doesn't allow for a dining table so having a small coffee table and side tables in the seating area is a must. they will be great for socializing and hanging out. again, i love the look of this table for it's minimalist and open design. definitely helps create that fresh and open environment!

4 \ plants and wood

given that we are in a high-rise condo, there is a lack of greenery not having a yard. i plan to have a lot of plants and flowers to ensure we actually feel like we are outside and to add pops of colour! and with our concrete balcony, there are no wood elements so incorporating some into our design is a must to warm up the space!

5 \ outdoor area rug

i love area rugs and outdoors there is no exception to that! i'd love to find a bold pattern with minimalist colour to add texture and a pop into the design. something that will be easy to clean and wash are important too.

these are they key components i'll be focusing on for our revamp for our balcony and i think they translate well for most outdoor designs! tomorrow i will be starting our design and i am so excited to share it with all of you!

thanks for reading as always, xox
