local love: nest in the city
i recently had the pleasure of meeting with jennifer from edmonton's creative market, nest in the city! we cozied up over scrumptious lattes at little brick and chatted about what nest in the city is all about, and what is means to the edmonton community.
what is nest in the city all about?
nest in the city's goal is to create a community of creativity. we market towards moms, featuring kids, baby and home decor vendors.
what inspired nest in the city?
when i had my son, i had a lot of time at home with him to think about what i wanted to do to bring the community together. i wanted to create something different and unique to offer to other moms like myself. i came up with the idea and collaborated with victoria, where we came up with nest in the city!
who is nest in the city for and what types of vendors are at your market?
nest in the city is for moms, the creative community, and young women starting to "nest".
how do you help out local businesses?
we help promote and introduce to them to a targeted market in their community. we feel as though our vendors gain confidence when they are able to see and interact with their customers. you can really feel the joy in the room from the community.
what is the most memorable experience you've had with nest in the city?
our spring city show in 2016 was incredible. we watched a flood of people come into the market. our idea came to life and it was so surreal.
what was your biggest hurdle starting nest in the city?
finding our niche, providing a one of kind opportunity for vendors to connect, separate ourselves and be unique to the market and to find a balance within that. it was a well thought out decision with the participants that we wanted at our market and what kind of workshops we wanted to offer.
what is next for nest in the city?
growing! but for now, we are content with the balance we have created with the market and our family. we just plan to take it as it comes and see what happens.
do you have any words of wisdom or advice to share with others in your position?
do something that you love and are passionate about. we've found a way to help people grow and have found something that compliments our personal lives, that seems to be the key to our success and happiness.
is there anything else that you would like the readers to know?
our upcoming market will be on may 27 + 28th, 2017 at the meadows community recreation centre. come by and visit! there is no charge.
